Ask taxpayers, not teachers, about cost of new school

A few years ago, the Fayette County Board of Education closed several elementary schools, selling a new one for a fraction of its cost, and closed one middle school. Now they want to build a few more schools?

They sold the BOE headquarters and spent more than it generated to renovate the old Fayette County High School complex to house the BOE. Rather than renovate Booth Middle School, they want to spend almost twice as much to build a new one? Are the Booth teachers who said they preferred a new building Fayette County residents?

As a retired educator, I applaud the efficiency and diligence of the teachers; however, the only people who should be influencing BOE decisions are Fayette County taxpayers.
