The Fayette County Animal Shelter will be hosting a special dog adoption event, “Mustard, Ketchup, and Canines,” this Saturday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at 1131 Highway 74 South in Peachtree City. In case of rain, the event will move to the same time on Sunday. Attendees will enjoy a free hot dog and the chance to meet some wonderful, adoptable dogs looking for loving homes.

An information desk will be available to help visitors find their perfect match. Whether you are looking for a puppy, a small companion, or a large family dog, volunteers will be on hand to guide visitors through the adoption process and help identify dogs that fit your preferences.

The animal shelter is currently over capacity, housing over 50 dogs in a facility designed to shelter 32 at a time. Many of these dogs came from challenging situations. One example of this is Romeo, who was shot in the paw as a puppy. Though shy at first, Romeo quickly becomes cuddly and affectionate once he gets to know you.

The goal of this event is to find a forever home for as many of the dogs as possible, like Romeo, in order to ease overcrowding and give the dogs more space and comfort. Adopting from the shelter is not only both humane and affordable- just $50 per dog- but it transforms the lives of these dogs in need.

“These dogs deserve to have a loving home,” said Sally, the shelter’s volunteer coordinator. “Having an event like this, our chances of that are much higher.”

The Fayette County Animal Shelter is always looking for volunteers, particularly with  morning and evening dog-walking. Those interested can text Sally at 203-510-6615 to learn more about getting involved.
