A Fayette County staple, Smith and Davis will celebrate its 60th anniversary on July 12 with major in-store discounts for customers who stop by to mark the milestone with them. As one of the oldest businesses in Fayette County, the store credits its longevity to a combination of adapting to the customer needs and the loyalty of the community who has supported them for decades.
To show their gratitude, Smith and Davis is offering exclusive deals in celebration. The first 60 customers that arrive before 11:00 a.m. will receive a 50% off coupon for one item and a 40% off coupon for two additional items. Customers who arrive after the first 60 but before 11:00 a.m. will still receive a 40% off coupon for two items. In addition, the store will host raffles throughout the day, giving customers the chance to win even more prizes.
Founded in the 1960s by Ronald and Noreene Davis, Smith and Davis has evolved significantly over the years. When the store first opened, Fayetteville was a small farming community, and the store primarily sold farmers’ clothing and suits for Sunday church. As the county grew and changed, so did Smith and Davis-transitioning to offer a mixture of modern apparel and outdoor wear that reflects the needs of today’s community.
“One thing that has not changed is our dedication to serving the needs of our community,” said store owner Tony Davis. “Whether it’s making sure someone gets the right fit on their shoes or finding specific clothing, we’ve always listened to our customers. By listening to our market we have been able to adapt to the clothing trends.”
Three generations have worked and operated the store throughout its 60 years of service. While Ronald passed away in 2021, his wife, Noreene, continues to do bookkeeping for the store weekly along with her daughter, Beth Ray. Their sons, George and Tony, manage the retail sales along with third generation family members Jacob Davis and Tanner Ray. All three generations have continued to prioritize customer service throughout their 60 years of business.
That customer-focused approach has earned Smith and Davis a loyal customer base. Davis recalls many long-time patrons who have moved out of state but still make a point to stop by when they are in Georgia. After reopening post-COVID-19, Davis feared low turnout-but instead, he found overwhelming support.
“It felt like everybody made a point to come out,” he said.
This sale hopes to serve as a celebration of the business’s resilience as well as a token of appreciation to the community that has helped sustain it. With back-to-school season around the corner, more great deals are also expected in the coming months.
Smith and Davis’s hands-on, old-school approach to customer service remains a key aspect of the business. Davis is optimistic about the future and hopes the store will continue to hold a valued role in the community in the future.
“We are extremely grateful for our customers, they have got us to where we are today,” said Davis. “We can only hope we are here for many more years to come.”
Smith and Davis is open from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and is located at 1552 GA-54 in Fayetteville. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the store at 770-487-4183.
