Trilith Studios in Fayetteville continues to play a major role in the modern film-making industry-this time with its latest blockbuster, “Superman.”

Premiering in theaters on Friday, June 11, the highly anticipated film, directed by James Gunn, earned approximately $220 million during its opening weekend. The feature scores the third-biggest box office debut of 2025 behind A Minecraft Movie and Lilo and Stitch.

The film follows Superman as he grapples with growing public distrust, fueled largely by antagonist Lex Luthor. Amidst local and international conflict, critics of the metahuman claim he is both dangerous and an alien with ill intent on Earth. Despite this, Superman continues to protect his city and the world, even those who are turning against him.

Joining him in his pursuit of justice are allies Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and his romantic partner Lois Lane, along with other journalists at The Daily Planet.  Together, they navigate the struggles of public opinion and the influence of the press at a time of global unrest.

“The movie was very well-balanced-it had action, romance, and humor that kept a lighthearted tone while still exploring the real-world theme of the power of the press,” said moviegoer Emma Anderson.

Even for those unfamiliar with the DC Universe, like me, the film still brings a lot to the table. With its fast-paced and engaging plot, Superman stands out as another win for Trilith Studios, which previously brought major productions to our screens like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and 3

The film is set in the fictional city of Metropolis, and while filmed in Fayetteville, no Fayetteville staples are discernible throughout the film. Still, Trilith Studio’s influence and quality of production are present throughout the movie. The film utilized the cutting-edge Lux Stage, which leverages advanced technology to create immersive environments and dynamic backdrops.

“Filmed across seven of our sound stages, Superman made full use of the space, scale, and support here at Trilith Studios. We’re so proud to have helped bring this action-packed adventure to life,” the studio shared in a recent Facebook post.

With the studio and surrounding area continuing to grow, anticipation is already building for what’s next from Trilith. If Superman is any indication, there are only more great things to come out of Fayetteville and Trilith Studios.
