Congratulations to Citizen of the Week, Erick Jefferson!

When Erick Jefferson takes the wheel, families know their children are in good hands. Recently named the Griffin RESA Driver of the Year, Jefferson is known not only for his skill behind the wheel, but also for the heart he brings to his job every day.

Since 2016, Jefferson has driven for Fayette County Public Schools, serving North Fayette Elementary, Flat Rock Middle, and Sandy Creek High School, along with mid-day special needs routes. Though he is one of the district’s youngest drivers, Jefferson is already recognized as a leader—respected by peers and beloved by parents and students alike.

“He approaches his role not just as a school bus driver, but as a calling ensuring every child on his route feels safe, seen, and cared for,” wrote one parent. Transportation Director Allen Leonard, who nominated Jefferson for the award, praised his punctuality, strong attendance, and commitment to safety, calling him “the ideal driver” whose work sets the standard for training others.

Jefferson’s calm presence, dependability, and heartfelt care have made a lasting impact on the school community—proving that leadership can shine brightly from the driver’s seat.
