PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — A familiar corner of Peachtree City’s dining scene is set for a transformation, as plans move forward to convert the former Smokey Bones restaurant into a J. Alexander’s.

The proposal, submitted by architecture and engineering firm Fusion AE, outlines a series of exterior upgrades at 100 Market Place Boulevard. These include a redesigned entrance, fresh stone veneer to highlight architectural features, and updated canopy and brick finishes. The goal is to give the building a clean, contemporary feel while aligning with city design standards.

While the new front façade falls slightly short of Peachtree City’s 80% primary materials requirement—coming in at 77%—city staff determined the project still meets the design intent of the Hwy 54 Corridor Overlay District. All other sides of the building remain 100% primary materials, and the design retains consistent architectural detailing throughout.

At its July 28 meeting, the Planning Commission expressed general support for the proposal. Commissioner Cruz voiced appreciation for the developer’s thoughtful investment.

“I appreciate the reinvestment in the property. I think that’s always appreciated from a community standpoint,” said Cruz. “It’s nice to hear that you’re not just putting a new sign on and moving back into the building.”

Commissioner Halverson offered feedback on the building’s aesthetics, while representatives from J. Alexander’s indicated they were open to working with city staff to refine the design further. The collaborative tone suggested a shared commitment to making the renovation a long-term asset to the area.

Proposed exterior finishes include Texas Cream stone, soft white EIFS, and repainted black brick. Copper-toned metal canopies and updated gate enclosures round out the look. Signage will be reviewed under a separate permit process at a later date.

If completed as planned, the project will bring J. Alexander’s—a contemporary American restaurant known for wood-fired cuisine—to one of Peachtree City’s most visible commercial corridors.
