Kedron Elementary turned one of their favorite books into an eye-opening and tasty math activity built around school buses.
The whole 1st grade team got on board for the fun. Each class read the book “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus,” then they made a bar graph on how each student arrived at the school that day. To better digest the data, they asked mathematical questions like which transportation types were the most and least used.
They put a sweet cap on the lesson by making their own edible school bus-shaped cookies.
Teacher Danielle Watton loved seeing the students dive into the activity.
“The goal was learning about each other and beginning to compare numbers mathematically. And, of course, to have fun!”
