There is an open seat on the Fayette County Ethics Board for a three-year term that begins in early November.

The board is made up of three members and two alternate members, all of whom are volunteers, and meets on an as-needed basis but generally no more than once a year, according to county officials. Ethics board meetings take place at the Fayette County Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Suite 100, in Fayetteville.

The seat in question is available for a term beginning Nov. 8 of this year and expiring Nov. 7, 2017.

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners will be accepting applications and resumes for the position. To obtain an application, contact Floyd Jones at 770-305-5102 or [email protected]. All applications must be returned to Jones’ office at the above address by Friday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m.

According to a published statement by county officials, the ethics board’s duties are “to administer the ethics ordinance; to receive, review, process, make determinations on, and hear complaints of violations of standards; to respond to complaints as it deems necessary; to hold hearings and to make such inquiries as deemed necessary to investigate and rule upon complaints; and to report its findings and actions to the Fayette County Board of Commissioners.”

The ethics board was established to ensure that “the proper operation of local government requires that public officials be independent, impartial, and responsible to the people; that government decisions and policy be made through proper channels of governmental structure; that public office not be used for personal gain; that public officials be free from the appearance of impropriety; and that the public have confidence in the integrity of its government.”
