McIntosh High School’s Orchestra, conducted by James C. Hagberg, performed their first concert of the 2014-2015 school year this fall.

The evening started off with a special thanks to the orchestra’s sponsor Ronald Sachs Violins. Chris Johns, the Peachtree City’s store owner accepted a special recognition the young musicians had prepared for him.

Johns said he plans to hang the gift, a framed picture of some of the orchestra’s cellist and the group’s signatures, in his store. Johns opened Ronald Sachs Violins second store in Peachtree City in July.

“We are happy and excited to be joining a community with such strong string programs. We recognized the need for a high quality violin shop in the community, and we are looking forward to continued growth and building relations with the area’s students, teachers and musicians,” said Johns.

The evening was filled with string music played by the high school’s symphonic, philharmonic and chamber orchestral groups.

A special piece composed by the school’s conductor, “Elegy for String Orchestra,” was dedicated to his son, Christopher Hagberg, who passed away in May.

“I composed this piece in memory of my sister, upon her passing, and dedicate it to my son this evening,” said Hagberg. “My older son, Roberto, played Hagberg’s “Elegy” at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2010, it is a very moving piece,” said Vita Cama, an orchestra member’s father. “It was absolutely beautiful tonight.” Ronald Sachs Violins is located at 2001 Commerce Drive in Peachtree City.
