Two local teams are still in the running for a state soccer championship. Both are girls teams and in separate classifications, meaning both could bring home a title.

Starr’s Mill defeated Columbus 3-2 on the road Friday to earn a semifinal spot Tuesday at Greenbrier in Augusta. A win there would mean an end to the long road trips and a home game next weekend for the AAAAA championship.

Whitewater is gunning for the AAAA crown, with Friday’s 2-1 win over Cartersville setting up a Tuesday semifinal against St. Pius. The finals would be on the road against Marist or Woodward.

Two boys teams lost their state quarterfinal matches Saturday. McIntosh fell 2-1 to Greenbrier and Whitewater lost 3-2 to SE Whitfield.
