Between preparing healthy food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, the Fayette County School System’s school nutrition professionals are true heroes.

To recognize their hard work and commitment, the school system will celebrate School Lunch Hero Week May 2-6. The week is an opportunity for parents, students, school staff, and the community to thank those who provide healthy meals to thousands of Fayette County students each day.

The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For some students, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. So far this school year, Fayette’s school nutrition staffs have collectively served over 164,900 breakfasts, 1,049,613 lunches, and 125,165 snacks throughout the school system.

Fayette County Schools encourages the community to recognize the hardworking professionals in the school system’s cafeterias during week of May 2-6 because school nutrition employees are superheroes who make a difference for every student who comes through the cafeteria.

The School Nutrition Association has celebrated the week annually since 2013.
