Emory University junior Sarah Flanders was recognized April 30 by the University Athletic Association as the Co-Hitter of the Week after helping the Eagles to five wins over a six-game stretch. It is the second time this year and in her career that she has been tabbed for the honor.

Flanders registered a .333 effort at the plate, collecting six hits in 18 at-bats, scoring a pair of runs and finishing with a team-high seven RBIs. She hit safely and knocked in runs in five contests as the Eagles closed out their regular season with an overall record of 28-10.

In a 3-2 decision over Georgia Gwinnett (Apr. 25), the No. 1-ranked team in the NAIA ranks, Flanders delivered a two-out single in the top of the sixth that snapped a 2-2 deadlock, providing Emory with its deciding score and snapping the Grizzlies’ 26-game win streak. In a 7-1 series-opening outcome over NYU that clinched the UAA title, she went 2-for-3 in hitting, scoring the team’s first run and then registering a RBI on a sacrifice fly. On the second day of action, she totaled three RBIs (including the game winner), two of which came on a single during a four-run second inning, in helping the team to a 5-1 victory. In the series finale, she picked up a hit a came through with a sacrifice fly in the fifth that staked the Eagles to a 2-1 advantage.

On the year, Flanders is hitting .315 (23-of-73) and has scored 17 runs.

She is a 2015 graduate of Starr’s Mill High School.
