Double championships makes victory twice as nice, but what makes it even sweeter is that history was made for Flat Rock Middle.

Both the girls and boys track and field teams won the 2018 Fayette County Track and Field Championship. While it is uncommon to have both teams from the same school take the championship, that is not where history was made.

The girls team won the championship for the first time ever and did so by a landslide, scoring 135 points. The girls were led by field event MVP India Holmes along with co-running MVPs Ryan Lewis, Isis Grant, and Gabriella Grissom. Grant set a new county record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25, breaking the existing record by four seconds.

The girls are coached by Regina Evans and Syntara Tyler.

Not to be outdone by the girls, the Flat Rock Middle boys won the championship with a score of 91 points. Putting the boys over the top was Miles Thornton, who won the long jump and the 400-meter dash, and Jason Wojcik, who won the 3,200-meter run and placed third in the 800-meter run.

The boys are coached by Nateil Carby and Geimere Latimer.
