As of Monday March 31, the railroad crossing at Tyrone-Palmetto Road near Senoia Road and Highway 74 is now open following last week’s train derailment. CSX says that the remaining wrecked cars are staged in their right-of-way and should be fully removed by Wednesday.

Readers had asked just what was in those derailed cars. According to a CSX spokesperson they had brewers malt and silica sand in them.

Questions remain about what happened, and CSX says they are still finalizing the investigation at this time. We do know that they were warned by Tyrone Police four hours before the six cars derailed that a piece of track was missing.
